The Maulers won just two of their first eight games of the season, but a weak North Division meant they were still in the postseason race.
They needed to win their final two regular season games though, and they did just that.
Pittsburgh downed Michigan 19-7 and then snatched a playoff berth with a 26-6 success against New Jersey.
That set up a North Division Championship Game showdown with Michigan – a team they beat twice during the regular season.
The Maulers maintained their perfect record against the Panthers, sealing a place in the USFL Championship Game with a 31-27 overtime win.

Birmingham are just one win away from back-to-back USFL championships after another dominant run.
The Stallions went 8-2 during the regular season, rebounding from a couple of stumbles in the first half of the campaign to cruise in to the playoffs.
They wrapped up the regular season with a five-game win streak that started with a 27-13 success against Michigan.
Birmingham then followed that up with a 24-20 success against New Orleans, a 27-24 victory over Philadelphia, and a 38-15 win against Houston.
The Stallions then wrapped up the regular season with a 27-20 win over Memphis to go into the South Division Championship Game in red-hot form.
And in a repeat of the 2022 South Division Championship Game, Birmingham once again got the better of New Orleans, winning 47-22.
