Michigan Panthers at DC Defenders Preview & Picks

Michigan are tipped to win as a slight underdog on the road.

The Panthers’ offense has looked much sharper than DC’s, and they also have the big boot of kicker Jake Bates as the ace up their sleeve.

  • Michigan Panthers are 3-1 in their last 4 games
  • DC Defenders are 1-2 in their last 3 games
  • The 2 teams are scoring a combined average of 41.5 points per game
  • 2 of DC’s last 3 games have produced under 43.0 total points

Head To Head

  • This is the first ever meeting between the two teams

Michigan Panthers Form

Michigan enter this matchup on the back of a couple of victories that have improved their record to 4-2.

The Panthers opened the season with a dramatic victory, as Jake Bates’ 64-yard field goal lifted them to an 18-16 win over St Louis.

They failed to build on that a week later as they were beaten 20-13 by Birmingham, but they did rebound immediately thanks to a 34-20 win over Houston.

Michigan then went out on the road for the first time and lost 19-9 when they visited San Antonio.

However, they once again bounced back quickly from a loss, following up a 35-18 win in Memphis with a 28-27 victory at home to Arlington.

DC Defenders Form

DC come into this game looking to build on a much-needed victory that took them back to .500 courtesy of a 3-3 record.

The Defenders mis-fired on opening night as they were beaten 27-12 on the road in San Antonio, but they bounced back to win their next two games.

They beat Houston 23-18 in their home opener, and then headed to Arlington where they staged a dramatic late fightback to snatch a 29-28 win over the Renegades.

DC failed to keep that winning run going though, as they were beaten 20-18 in Birmingham before losing 45-12 at home to St Louis.

The Defenders got back on track last weekend though, as they battled past San Antonio for an 18-12 victory.

Verdict

DC may have won last weekend, but they do not instil much confidence.

Michigan have looked the better team through six weeks and they have the league’s best kicker, who can connect from huge distances, so the Panthers make for an appealing underdog here.
