DC are out of the postseason hunt, having lost back-to-back games to fall to 3-5 for the season.
The Defenders made it all the way to the XFL Championship a year ago, but got off to a losing start in the UFL as they were beaten 27-12 in San Antonio.
They rebounded to beat Houston 23-18 at home and Arlington 29-28 on the road, but it has largely been all downhill for them since then.
DC were beaten 20-18 at Birmingham and were then blown out at home by St Louis, losing 45-12 to the Battlehawks.
The Defenders did avoid a third straight defeat by beating San Antonio 18-12, but they quickly returned to losing ways as they were beaten 22-9 by Michigan and 26-21 at St Louis.
Memphis Showboats Form
Memphis go into this game having lost seven consecutive games to leave themselves with a 1-7 record.
The Showboats made a winning start to the season as they won 18-12 in Houston, but they have not managed a single victory since then.
They blew a late lead to lose 20-19 to San Antonio in their home opener, before going out on the road to lose 33-14 in Birmingham and 32-17 at St Louis.
Memphis then returned home for back-to-back games and were beaten 35-18 by Michigan and 39-21 by Birmingham as their skid continued.
The Showboats have not stopped the rot on the road either, following up a 47-23 defeat in Arlington with a 24-18 defeat at Michigan.
Verdict
Neither team is headed to the playoffs, but DC have offered a few more reasons for optimism.
