Spain were the only team to win all three group games at Euro 2024, doing it without conceding a goal. They beat Croatia 3-0 with Alvaro Morata, Fabian Ruiz and Dani Carvajal on target.
Luis de la Fuente’s side defeated Italy 1-0 after having a commanding 9-1 shots on target. Fuente rested his first choice side against Albania, Ferran Torres’ early goal securing a 1-0 victory.
La Roja fell behind early against Georgia in the Round of 16 but came home strong to win 4-1. They finished with 35-4 shots, Rodri equalising before second half goals to Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams and Dani Olmo wrapped it up.
Spain got past Germany 2-1 in extra time thanks to Mikel Merino’s dramatic 119th minute winner.
They then beat France 2-1 in the semi-finals, going behind in the 9th minute before goals to Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo turned the contest around.
England Form
England started Euro 2024 with a 1-0 win against Serbia, Jude Bellingham scoring early in a game with few chances.
Harry Kane then opened the scoring in a deserved 1-1 draw against Denmark.
Gareth Southgate’s side ended Group C with a 0-0 draw against Slovenia, enough to secure top spot. They had 73% possession and 12-4 shots but couldn’t break the deadlock.
The Three Lions fell behind against Slovakia in the Round of 16, Bellingham’s 94th minute equaliser and Kane’s extra time goal securing a 2-1 victory.
Bukayo Saka equalised in the 80th minute against Switzerland, the game going to a penalty shootout where they held their nerve.
England got past Netherlands 2-1 in the semi-finals. Faling behind in the 7th minute, Kane won and converted a penalty 11 minutes later with Ollie Watkins coming off the bench to score a 90th minute wnner.
Verdict
Spain are tipped to ruin England's dream of being crowned European champions.
While the Three Lions have ridden their luck at times, the Spaniards have caught the eye repeatedly in this tournament.
