New York’s hopes of making the playoffs have suffered a setback over the past couple of weeks, with six defeats coming in their last nine games.
The Rangers’ underwhelming run began at home as they suffered three straight defeats, losing 3-1 to Edmonton, 2-1 to Calgary and 4-3 to Toronto.
They briefly stopped that skid with a 5-3 win over Vancouver, only to then lose 3-1 in Los Angeles and 5-4 in overtime at Anaheim.
New York rallied to beat San Jose 6-1 on the road and Minnesota 5-4 in overtime at home, but they failed to make it three-in-a-row.
The Rangers enter this matchup having been shut out in a 4-0 defeat to New Jersey over the weekend.

Both teams lost last time out, but Tampa Bay give us more reasons for optimism.
