St Louis Blues at Dallas Stars Picks & Betting Tips

St Louis are looking to bounce back after that 3-2 overtime loss at home to Anaheim stopped a 3-game win streak for the Blues. I don’t think their luck will get any better when they visit Dallas though.

Dallas are on a poor run as well losing their last three games, all on the road, but they are confident at home and have not lost at the American Airlines Center since the 2nd week in November.

  • St Louis are 3-1-2 in December
  • Dallas Stars are 9-2-1 at home
  • St Louis Blues are 3rd in the Central Division
  • Dallas Stars are 6th in the Central Division

Head To Head

  • Dallas Stars lead the series this season 1-0 after beating the Blues 4-1 on November 21st
  • St Louis lead the all-time series winning 139 games to the Stars’ 115 wins

St Louis Blues Form

St Louis will need to bounce back from the loss at home against Anaheim to carry on their playoff push that they have started to build up slowly but surely. The home record for St Louis is impressive winning 10 out of the blues’ 15 wins at home which shows there could be a problem with the form when the team leaves St Louis.

The Blues have only won 5 games away from home and last won away from the Enterprise Center on November 9th in a shootout win against Winnipeg. This poor run of away form must be in the minds of Blues’ players, staff, and fans.

A main threat for the Blues is 23-year-old C Jordan Kyrou. He leads the points charts and is in the top 5 charts for goals and assists. The 35th overall draft pick in 2016 is trying to cement a full-time place in this playoff pushing St Louis side. Kyrou is 10 points off equalling his personal best record for a season that shows he really wants to kick on with his career with the Blues.

Another threat in front of goal is 26-year-old LW Pavel Buchnevich, who leads the goals tally with Brandon Saad as both left wingers have 11 goals this season. Buchnevich has more assists than goals this season that shows the left side of St Louis is something teams will have to watch for.

The Blues have an 29.5% Powerplay conversion rate which is the 3rd highest in the league.

Jordan Binnington has a goal against average is 2.80 and a save percentage of .912. He also has 1 shutout this season.

Dallas Stars Form

Dallas will want to improve their form at the American Airlines Center, getting 9 out of their 13 wins at home. They haven’t lost at home since November 10th and in that run, they beat the Blues quite convincingly with a 4-1 victory on November 20th.

If Dallas want to go higher up the standings, they need to sort that away form but for this game it doesn’t matter about that form, all that matters is getting that 10th win in Dallas.

The main threat for the 1998/99 Stanley Cup winning franchise is Joe Pavelski. The 37-year-old is showing that there is still life in the 2003 7th round draft pick with him leading the points tally and is 2nd in goals and assists for the stars.

Another main player for the Stars is defenseman Miro Heiskanen. There was hype around the young Finnish man when he was picked 3rd in the 2017 NHL draft and 4 years later, he has proven the hype was justified. He was key to the Stars’ run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020 scoring 26 points and he’s on course to get more than that this season and hopefully the Stars’ can go one better this season.

Dallas Stars are 1st in the league at Faceoff wins with a percentage of 55.5%. The Stars also have a 27.1% Powerplay Conversion rate which is the 4th highest in the league.

Braden Holtby has a goal against average is 2.39 and a save percentage of .923.

Verdict

This will be two teams trying to pick up a needed win to kick on as we are getting into a busy period in both teams’ schedules.

That considered I think Dallas’ home form mixed with the poor away for of the Blues’ just makes me think that Dallas will edge this in a close encounter.
