Edmonton Oilers Form

Edmonton earned their place in the playoffs by putting together a 48-29-5 record to finish third in the Pacific Division standings.

The Oilers ended the regular season on a decent run of form, winning seven of their final 10 games, with the first three of those wins being 3-2 successes against Calgary, Vegas and San Jose.

They cooled off with a 3-0 defeat to Los Angeles and a 3-2 loss to Anaheim, but rebounded to beat St Louis 4-3, San Jose 4-2 and Winnipeg 4-1.

Edmonton failed to make it four-in-a-row as they lost 5-0 to Los Angeles, but they bounced back in their regular season finale, winning 3-0 in San Jose.

The Oilers were unable to back that up in their postseason opener however, as they were beaten 6-5 by the Kings.

Los Angeles Kings Form

Los Angeles secured their spot in the playoffs by going 50-22-10 in the regular season to finish atop the Pacific Division.

The Kings ended their regular season schedule with a defeat, but they came into the postseason in good form with eight wins in their final 10 regular season games.

They ended March with an 8-1 blowout of San Jose, and backed that up in early April as they beat Winnipeg 4-1, Utah 4-2 and Edmonton 3-0.

Los Angeles failed to make it five-in-a-row as they lost 2-1 to Seattle, but they rebounded immediately by beating Anaheim 6-1, Colorado 5-4, Edmonton 5-0 and Seattle 6-5.

The Kings’ run was ended by a 5-1 defeat to Calgary, but they issued an immediate response in the postseason as they beat Edmonton 6-5.

Verdict

Los Angeles took the opening game of the series, and we expect them to back that up.

The Kings have been in good form for weeks and they have repeatedly got the better of Edmonton this season.
