The Avalanche entered this series on a mixed run of form, having gone 4-3 in their final seven regular season games.
They started April with back-to-back road wins, beating Chicago 3-2 and Columbus 7-3, and then bounced back from a 5-4 loss to St Louis with a 3-2 shootout success against Vegas.
Colorado failed to back that up as they lost 4-1 to Vancouver and 5-4 in Los Angeles, but they did end the regular season on a positive note, beating Anaheim 4-2.
The Avalanche followed that up with a 5-1 victory in the series opener in Dallas, only to then lose the second meeting with the Stars, 4-3 in overtime.
Verdict
Colorado lost last time out, but their trip to Dallas was a successful one thanks to the Game 1 win.
