Washington Commanders at Detroit Lions Preview & Picks

Detroit are backed to cover as they set up an NFC Championship Game at Ford Field.

The Lions offense is firing and is now boosted further by the return of David Montgomery.

And despite a bunch of injuries, this defense continues to make crucial, game-winning stops.

  • Detroit Lions are 15-2 this season
  • Detroit Lions are 12-5-0 ATS this season
  • Washington Commanders are 1-3-0 ATS in their last 4 road games
  • The Over has cashed in 4 of Detroit’s last 5 games

Head To Head

  • Washington Commanders lead the all-time series 31-16
  • Detroit Lions won 36-27 when the two teams last met in September 2022

Washington Commanders Form

Washington head to Detroit looking to follow up their first playoff win for almost 20 years and extend their current win streak to six games.

The Commanders opened the season with a defeat, but rallied over the next several weeks to win seven times in eight games.

A three-game losing skid in November threatened to derail their season, but they stopped the rot with a 42-19 win over Tennessee before the bye week, and then backed that up.

Washington won their final four games of the regular season, including a big 36-33 win when they hosted division rivals Philadelphia just before Christmas.

The Commanders then ended their long wait for a postseason victory as a walk-off field goal earned them a 23-20 victory at Tampa Bay in the Wildcard round.

Detroit Lions Form

Detroit return to action after the bye week looking to secure their second straight appearance in the NFC Championship Game.

The Lions came up short in the conference championship last season, but they have put that firmly behind them this time around.

A 15-2 regular-season record not only earned them the NFC North crown, but it also secured home field advantage for the postseason.

Detroit ensured the NFC’s road to New Orleans would go through the Motor City by winning their final three games of the regular season.

The Lions went out on the road to down Chicago 34-17 and San Francisco 40-34, before winning a huge home game against division rivals Minnesota, 31-9.

Verdict

Detroit’s offense has been sensational, while the defense continues to defy a long list of injuries and is coming off its best performance of the season so far.

So while Jayden Daniels’ rookie season has been extremely impressive, we expect Washington’s run to finally come to an end in Detroit.
