New York Jets Form
New York will look to improve on a 2023 season that saw them finish 7-10 after losing star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury just minutes into his Jets debut, and although they went on to upset Buffalo in that game, 22-16, it was not a sign of things to come.
They lost three of their next six games and then went on a five-game losing run between the start of November and early December to see their playoff hopes go up in smoke.
New York did manage one notable win late in the regular season, upsetting a playoff-bound Houston team 30-6 at home.
The Jets also wrapped up the campaign on a positive note, avenging a Week 3 defeat to division rivals New England with a 17-3 victory on the road.
San Francisco 49ers Form
San Francisco enter the season looking to go one better than last time around, when they again lost to Kansas City in Super Bowl.
The 49ers raced out of the blocks with a five-game win streak, but went cold in October as they lost three consecutive games to derail their momentum.
They stopped the rot with a 34-3 win in Jacksonville though, and that was the first of seven more wins that saw them finish 12-5 and book their place in the playoffs.
San Francisco enjoyed homefield advantage in the postseason and made it count as they beat Green Bay 24-21 and Detroit 34-31 to book their place in the Super Bowl.
That set up a rematch of the 2019 Super Bowl between the 49ers and Kansas City, and once again they came up short against the Chiefs, this time losing 25-22 in overtime.
Verdict
San Francisco are stacked on both sides of the football and are a leading contender to win the Super Bowl.
The same cannot be said for the Jets, even with Aaron Rodgers back, so we expect the 49ers to deliver in the first Monday night game of the 2024 campaign.
