Los Angeles Rams at Detroit Lions Preview & Picks

Los Angeles are tipped to cover as a betting underdog on the road.

The Rams lost Aaron Donald to retirement in the offseason, but bolstered the D-Line in the draft.

They also return with the lethal Stafford-Nacua combination on offense, so we expect similar scenes to last season’s playoff meeting.

  • Detroit Lions beat LA Rams by just 1 point in last season’s playoffs
  • Los Angeles Rams are 4-2-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings with Detroit
  • Los Angeles Rams are 7-1-0 ATS in their last 8 competitive matchups
  • The Under has cashed in each of the previous 3 meetings

Head To Head

  • Los Angeles Rams lead the all-time series 45-42-1
  • Detroit Lions won 24-23 when the two teams last met in January 2024

Los Angeles Rams Form

Los Angeles enter the 2024 season looking to better a 2023 campaign that saw them lose to Detroit in the Wildcard round.

The Rams made a miserable start to last year as they went into the bye week in early November with a 3-6 record.

They turned things around after the restart though, winning seven of their final eight regular season outings to finish 10-7 and claim a place in the postseason.

Los Angeles went ‘one and done’ in the playoffs however, as they were narrowly beaten 24-23 by Detroit in the Wildcard clash at Ford Field.

The Rams lost Hall-of-fame-bound defensive tackle Aaron Donald to retirement after that loss, but looked to rebuild that line by drafting Jared Verse and Braden Fiske out of Florida State.

Detroit Lions Form

Detroit have their sights set on finally making the Super Bowl after falling agonizingly short a year ago.

The Lions went 12-5 in 2023, clinching the NFC North title for the first time in franchise history, and they made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game.

There were some notable wins along the way, including a 21-20 victory when they visited eventual Super Bowl winners, the Kansas City Chiefs, on opening night.

In the postseason Detroit battled past the Los Angeles Rams, 24-23, before taking down Tampa Bay, 31-23.

However, the Lions’ dream of making it to the Super Bowl was dashed in the NFC Championship Game, as they were beaten 34-31 at San Francisco.

Verdict

Detroit are expected to win lots of games this season so they are rightly favorites here.

However, the Rams took them to the limit back in January and were a reliable spread bet during the second half of last season, so we are taking LA and the points in this one.
