Los Angeles are locked in a two-way tie with Denver in the AFC West thanks to last week's massive win over the Broncos.
The Chargers made a mixed start to the Jim Harbaugh era as they split their first six games, but a 26-8 win over New Orleans in late October proved to be a spark.
They then backed up a 27-10 road win over Cleveland with home wins against Tennessee, 27-17, and Cincinnati, 34-27, before falling to a 30-23 defeat to Baltimore.
Los Angeles rebounded to win 17-13 in Atlanta, only to then suffer back-to-back defeats as they lost 19-17 to Kansas City at home and 40-17 to Tampa Bay on the road.
The Chargers rallied last weekend though, beating Denver 34-27 to pull level with the Broncos at 9-6.
New England Patriots Form
New England enter this game already know that their season is over thanks to a couple of lengthy losing skids.
The Patriots opened with a surprise 16-10 in Cincinnati, but their form quickly collapsed as they lost their next six games.
They stopped the rot briefly with a 25-22 win over the New York Jets, and then responded to a 20-17 overtime defeat in Tennessee with a 19-3 victory in Chicago.
New England failed to build on that though, as they then lost 28-22 to the Los Angeles Rams, 34-15 at Miami, 26-24 to Indianapolis and 30-17 in Arizona.
The Patriots' losing run reached five games last weekend, although they did run division rivals Buffalo close on 24-21 defeat.
Verdict
Los Angeles needed that win over Denver, but they have to follow that up with another here.
The Chargers can do just that against a New England team who continue to stack up losses, especially at home.
