Atlanta entered this season looking to improve on the 7-10 record they put together during the 2023 regular season.
The Falcons opened last year with back-to-back wins at home, but soon cooled off and closed out the season with four defeats in their final five games.
They responded in the offseason by signing free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins to a big-money deal, before making the controversial decision to also draft Michael Penix Jr in the top-10.
Atlanta also made some big moves to bring in Matthew Judon and Justin Simmons, while on offense the most notable arrival has been Darnell Mooney.
The new-look Falcons went 0-3 in the preseason, and that losing run continued in their regular season-opener.
The defense did not give up a single touchdown, but the offense failed to score a point in the second half as they were beaten 18-10 at home by Pittsburgh.
Philadelphia Eagles Form
Philadelphia came into the 2024 campaign looking to bounce back from their epic collapse over the final few weeks of the 2023 season.
The Eagles were fancied as a Super Bowl contender before the campaign, having lost the previous Super Bowl to Kansas City, and they made a hot start by winning 10 of their first 11 games.
Everything went south after a 42-19 home defeat to San Francisco however, as they lost five of their final six regular season games and were then blown out, 32-9, in Tampa in the Wildcard round.
The offseason saw Philadelphia lose Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox to retirement, and for the second straight year there were also changes at defensive and offensive co-ordinator.
The Eagles continue to boast a strong roster however, and they came into the new campaign having gone 2-1 in the preseason.
They then kicked off the regular season in Brazil, where they beat the Green Bay Packers 34-29.
Verdict
This Atlanta team should be better than what we saw in 2023, but they are not yet at the level to beat a team like Philadelphia on the road.
The Eagles have made fast starts to the last two seasons, and we expect them to mark their home opener with a win and cover.
