Texas at Michigan Preview & Picks

Texas are tipped to cover as they win on the road in Michigan.

The Longhorns offense, led by Quinn Ewers, was firing on all cylinders in their season opener.

The Wolverines, meanwhile, spluttered offensively after losing a bunch of talent in the offseason.

  • Texas are 4-1-0 ATS in their last 5 games
  • Michigan failed to cover in their season-opener
  • The Under has cashed in 9 of Texas’ last 13 games
  • The Under has hit in 11 of Michigan’s last 16 games (2 pushes)

Head To Head

  • Texas lead the al-time series 1-0
  • Texas won 38-37 when the two teams last met in January 2005

Texas Form

Texas are looking to send a message to the rest of college football when they head out on the road for the first time.

Last weekend the Longhorns opened up their campaign at home, cruising to a 52-0 win over Colorado State, but this will be a major step up in quality of opposition.

They did enjoy success against ranked teams last season, but there were a couple of defeats along the way, including a 34-30 loss in Oklahoma.

Despite that defeat Texas clinched their place in the college football playoffs with a 49-21 blowout of Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship Game.

However, the Longhorns failed to make it to the national championship as they were beaten 37-31 by Washington in the Sugar Bowl.

Michigan Form

Michigan play at home for the second weekend in a row, and they will be aiming to back up a season-opening win.

It was not pretty, but the Wolverines began their defence of the college football crown with a 30-10 victory over Fresno State.

Their offensive struggles were not a major surprise though, after an offseason that saw some massive changes on campus.

Following their national championship success, a 34-13 win over Washington, Michigan lost head coach Jim Harbaugh to the NFL.

The Wolverines also lost a bunch of talent on offense, including quarterback JJ McCarthy and several offensive lineman.

Verdict

Michigan’s defense remains an impressive unit, but this offense is going to need more time.

That spells trouble for them against Texas, who came roaring out of the blocks a week ago as Quinn Ewers threw three touchdown passes in a blowout win.
