Texas A&M vs USC Preview & Picks

USC are backed to cover as a betting underdog in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Texas A&M are the better team and can ride their run game to victory, but they have rarely covered the spread this season and that trend is likely to continue here.

  • Texas A&M are 3-9-0 ATS this season
  • USC are 7-5-0 ATS this season
  • USC are 2-1-0 ATS as a betting underdog
  • The Under has cashed in 3 of USC’s last 4 games

Head To Head

  • USC lead the all-time series 3-0
  • USC won 47-28 when the two teams last met in December 1977

Texas A&M Form

Texas A&M earned their invite to the Las Vegas Bowl by putting together an 8-4 record in the regular season.

The Aggies dropped their season opener against Notre Dame, 23-13, but rebounded to win their next seven games.

That red-hot run included a couple of wins over top-10 ranked teams, as they took down Missouri, 41-10, and LSU, 38-23, at home.

Texas A&M’s run was finally ended by a 44-20 loss at South Carolina, and although they rebounded to beat New Mexico State 43-41, the did not end the regular season on a high.

The Aggies were beaten 43-41 on the road by Auburn, before heading home for a 17-7 defeat at the hands of Texas.

USC Form

USC won three of their final five regular season games to finish 6-6 and claim a spot in a bowl game.

The Trojans opened with back-to-back non-conference wins, including a 27-20 upset of LSU, but they failed to transfer that form into their first campaign in the Big Ten.

They lost their debut to Michigan, 27-24, and then failed to build on a 38-21 victory over Wisconsin as they lost three consecutive games.

USC rallied to win three of their final four Big Ten outings though, beating Rutgers 42-20 before bouncing back from a 26-21 loss to Washington by beating Nebraska 28-20 and UCLA 19-13.

However, the Trojans failed to conclude their regular season with a win, losing 49-35 when they hosted Notre Dame.

Verdict

Texas A&M had the more impressive regular season, but they proved to be a bad spread bet.

They covered just three times all season, so we are taking a USC team that delivered as an underdog on a couple of occasions.
