California’s defense struggled during the final few weeks and this Rebels offense has the firepower to take advantage and at least run the Golden Bears close.

California secured their LA Bowl invitation by finishing 6-6 during their first season as an ACC team.
The Golden Bears opened the season with three non-conference wins, but it took them several attempts to get off the mark in the ACC.
They lost their first four games in their new conference, including a couple of narrow defeats to Miami and NC State, before finally breaking their conference duck with a 46-36 win at Wake Forest.
California failed to follow that up as they lost 33-25 to Syracuse, only to rebound at the first attempt with a 24-21 victory over Stanford.
The Golden Bears were again unable to back up a conference win though, as they closed out the regular season with a 38-6 loss at SMU.
UNLV Form
UNLV compiled a 10-3 record to earn their bowl invite despite losing in the Mountain West Championship Game.
The Rebels opened with a four-game win streak that was eventually brought to an end by a 44-41 defeat at home to Syracuse.
They rebounded with back-to-back wins, only to then suffer their first conference defeat of the season as they lost 29-24 to Boise State.
UNLV’s response was strong though, as they closed out the regular season with four consecutive wins to earn a conference championship spot.
However, the Rebels again came up short in a meeting with Boise State, this time losing 21-7.
Verdict
California had a rough first season in the ACC and the defense has struggled recently.
UNLV, on the other hand, are in good form with a productive offense, so we like the chances of the Rebels running the Golden Bears close, at the very least.
