Boise State vs Penn State Preview & Picks

Boise State are tipped to cover as a double digit underdog.

The Broncos took Oregon to the limit in the regular season and star man Ashton Jeanty was outstanding in that game, so they have shown they can test the best in College Football.

  • Boise State are 1-0-0 ATS as a double digit underdog
  • Penn State are 6-6-0 ATS so far this season
  • Penn State are 4-4-0 ATS as a double digit favorite
  • The Over has cashed in 4 of Penn State’s last 5 games

Head To Head

  • This is the first ever meeting between the two teams

Boise State Form

Boise State earned themselves a trip to the College Football Playoffs and a first-round bye thanks to a 12-1 record that included a Mountain West Championship win.

The Broncos began the season unranked, but gained attention quickly as they pushed Oregon all the way in a 37-34 defeat on the road in early September.

They responded to that defeat with an 11-game win streak and went 7-0 in their conference to make it all the way to the Championship Game.

Boise State’s run also saw them catapult themselves all the way into the top 10 in the College Football rankings.

The Broncos wrapped up the regular season, and clinched a first round bye in the playoffs, with a 21-7 victory over UNLV in the conference championship.

Penn State Form

Penn State came into the College Football Playoffs looking to bounce back from defeat in a conference championship game.

The Nittany Lions opened the season with a seven-game win streak, which was finally ended by a 20-13 defeat to Ohio State in the battle of two top-five teams.

They rebounded well though, reeling off four consecutive victories to claim their place in the Big Ten Championship after the Buckeyes lost to Michigan.

Penn State were paired with the number one team in the nation, Oregon, and came up short despite an impressive effort.

The Nittany Lions pushed the Ducks to the limit in a high-scoring game, but ultimately came up short as they lost 45-37.

They had done enough to make the playoffs though, and they rebounded in the first round by making light work of SMU in a 38-10 victory.

Verdict

Penn State are rightly favorites and we do expect them to advance to the semi-finals.

However, we cannot ignore just how well Boise State and Jeanty performed against Oregon earlier this season, so give us the Broncos and plenty of free points.
