Purdue enter March Madness having struggled for form in recent weeks, losing six of their last nine games.
The Boilermakers’ saw a four-game win streak end with a 75-73 defeat to Michigan on February 11, and that proved to be the start of a four-game skid.
They ended that losing skid with a 76-66 win over UCLA, and then beat Rutgers 100-71 before falling to Illinois in their regular season finale, 88-80.
Purdue rebounded in their opening game of the Big Ten tournament, beating Southern California 76-71, but their joy was short-lived.
The Boilermakers were dumped out of the conference tournament in the quarter-finals, as they lost 86-68 to Michigan,
High Point Form
High Point are riding a red-hot run of form into the national tournament, having now won each of their last 14 games.
The Panthers have not been beaten since the 82-80 defeat when they visited Longwood back on January 16.
They issued an immediate response to that loss, and then closed out the regular season on an 11-game win streak.
High Point kept that run going in the Big South tournament, as they downed Gardner-Webb 85-64 and Radford 76-73.
The Panthers then completed the job in the final, as they took down Winthrop, 81-69, to claim the conference crown.
Verdict
High Point have been on a tear, but that tear has been at a lesser level.
