Los Angeles will look to make it back-to-back home wins to start the 2024/25 regular season.
The Lakers, who also bowed out of the playoffs in the first round last season, opened the campaign against Minnesota on Tuesday night.
They ran out 110-103 winners on a historic night where LeBron James and Bronny James became the first father-son combination to play in an NBA game.
Los Angeles went into that opening game having compiled a 2-4 record during the pre-season, which included two meetings with Phoenix.
The Lakers were beaten 118-114 when they hosted the Suns, before heading to Phoenix to win 128-122 in overtime.
Verdict
Los Angeles impressed as they took down a contender on opening night, while Phoenix underwhelmed as they scraped past a short-handed Clippers team.
The Suns struggled at the defensive end of the court in that one, and that is something LA can now exploit.
