Miami have given themselves a second shot at advancing to the playoffs through the Play-In tournament.
The Heat went 37-45 during the regular season, and cost themselves home court advantage in the first round of the Play-In as they lost four times in their final six regular season games.
That rough run began with a 110-108 defeat at home to Memphis, and they then sandwiched a 117-105 win over Philadelphia with a 121-115 overtime loss to Milwaukee and a 119-111 defeat in Chicago.
Miami rebounded from the loss to the Bulls with a 153-104 blowout of New Orleans, only to close out the regular season with a 119-118 loss to Washington.
The Heat bounced back in the opening game of the Play-In though, as they took an early lead and never looked back in a comfortable 109-90 victory in Chicago.
Atlanta Hawks Form
Atlanta claimed a place in the Play-In Tournament by putting together a 40-42 regular-season record to finish eighth in the Eastern Conference.
The Hawks enjoyed a good run during the final seven days of the regular season as they won four times in their last five games.
They ended a three-game skid with a 147-134 victory over Utah, and then rebounded from a 119-112 loss in Orlando, with wins at Brooklyn, 133-109, and Philadelphia, 124-110.
Atlanta then made it three-in-a-row with a 117-105 victory at home to Orlando to close out the regular season.
The Hawks were unable to repeat that victory in the first round of the Play-In tournament though, as they were beaten 120-95 by the Magic on the road.
Verdict
Miami barely broke a sweat as they took down Chicago and we expect them to back it up.
