The Lakers ended the regular season with a 47-35 record, and secured their spot in the playoffs via the Play-In Tournament.
They won 11 of their final 13 regular season games, wrapping up that part of the season with a 124-108 victory at New Orleans.
Los Angeles then took on the Pelicans again in the Play-In Tournament, and they once again left New Orleans with the victory, this time winning 110-106.
That set up this playoff meeting with defending NBA champions Denver, and the Lakers fell to a 114-103 defeat in the series opener.

Denver hold a 1-0 lead following the opening game of this playoff series with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Nuggets finished the regular season with a 57-25 record, but had to settle for second place in the Western Conference after losing four times in their final 10 games.
They did win four of their last five regular season games though - a sequence that started with three consecutive wins as they beat Atlanta 142-110, Utah 111-95 and Minnesota 116-107.
Denver then rebounded from a 121-120 defeat in San Antonio by closing out the regular season with a 126-111 success in Memphis.
The Nuggets then made it back-to-back wins in the opening game of the postseason, beating Los Angeles 114-103 on Saturday night.
Verdict
When these two teams have met in recent times there has been one regular outcome - Denver win and cover the spread.
There is little reason to think that trend will not continue when the two teams meet again in Game 2.
