Boston Celtics Form
Boston go into Game 4 of the NBA Finals with an opportunity to sweep Dallas and clinch the championship.
The Celtics opened the series with back-to-back wins at home, downing the Mavericks 107-89 and 105-98, and backed that up with a 106-99 road win in Game 3.
This 3-0 start against Dallas has continued a dominant playoff run that has seen them win 14 of their 16 games, and each of the last 10.
Boston, who compiled a league-best 64-18 record during the regular season, split the first two games of their first-round series with Miami, but that Game 2 defeat has proven to be a rarity.
The Celtics’ bounced back with a couple of blowout wins over the Heat on the road, and then returned home to clinch the series with a 118-84 victory.
They then split the first two games of the series with Cleveland, but just like in the first round they came storming back from a loss with three consecutive wins to wrap things up.
Boston reeled off 106-93, 109-102 and 113-98 victories over the Cavaliers to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
There the Celtics made straightforward work of Indiana, sweeping the Pacers in four games thanks to 133-128 (OT), 126-110, 114-111 and 105-102 wins.
Dallas Mavericks Form
Dallas go into tonight’s game knowing that one more defeat will end their hopes of winning a second NBA title.
The Mavericks dropped their first two games of the series on the road, 107-89 and 105-98, and they then fell to a 106-99 home defeat in Game 3 that has left them on the brink going into Game 4.
They have lost eight games so far in the postseason, and a ninth would bring an end to this series.
Dallas, who went 50-32 during the regular season, made a losing start to the playoffs as they lost the series opener at the LA Clippers, 109-97.
The Mavericks rebounded to win four of the next five games however, setting up a meeting with Oklahoma City in the second round.
They split the first four games of the series with the Thunder, but were able to clinch a 4-2 victory when they backed up a 104-92 win on the road with a series-sealing 117-116 victory at home.
Dallas then made light work of the Western Conference Finals showdown with Minnesota, beating the Timberwolves in five games.
The Mavericks won the first three games of the series, and then bounced back from a 105-100 defeat with a 124-103 road win that wrapped up a 4-1 series win and sealed an NBA Finals berth.
Verdict
Sweeping Dallas is a tough ask, but it is hard to look past Boston’s playoff dominance.
The Celtics have rolled over everyone and they have kept Dallas to under 100 points in all three games so far, so we have to side with the red-hot visitors in Game 4.
