The main event for the night’s action sees Amanda Nunes defend her UFC women’s bantamweight title against Irene Aldana.
Nunes regained the bantamweight title from Julianna Pena last year, becoming a two-weight world champion for the second time in her UFC career, and ‘The Lioness’ was set to make her first defence against the former title-holder in a trilogy fight at UFC 289.
Pena was, however, forced to withdraw from the card after sustaining broken rubs during her camp for the fight, and Aldana was quickly named as her replacement for this main even showdown.
Aldana has bounced back from a decision defeat to former champion Holly Holm by stopping both Yana Kunitskaya and Macy Chiasson via strikes, and she will now aim to make it three-in-a-row by recording the biggest win of her career so far.
Nunes, meanwhile, will be targeting a successful first defence of the crown she regained just under a year ago, and with another ‘W’ she will continue to cement her status as the greatest female fighter of all time.
