The main event of UFC 285 sees the return of the man many believe is the greatest fighter in UFC history, two-time former light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Jones is not going after the crown he has held on two occasions though – he is finally making the jump up to heavyweight and will take on former title challenger Ciryl Gane for the vacant crown and the moniker of ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’.

‘Bones’ is unbeaten in his last 18 fights, but his career has been marred by legal disputes and drug test failures and he has not stepped foot inside the Octagon since beating Dominick Reyes by unanimous decision at UFC 247 in February 2020.

He will look to make up for lost time by becoming a two-weight world champion, but looking to deny him is a heavyweight fighter who has lost just once in his career.

Gane won his first six fights after signing with the UFC, and that landed him a showdown with Derrick Lewis for the interim heavyweight title in August 2021, which he won by knockout in the third round.

That landed the Frenchman a crack at heavyweight champion, but he came up short on the night as he was lost a decision to Francis Ngannou. So can he take his second chance to become a UFC champion?

This is not the only title on the line at UFC 285, with dominant champion Valentina Shevchenko making her eighth defence of the women’s flyweight crown she won back in December 2018.

She has so far torn through the best the division has to offer, but can Alexa Grasso be the woman to end the reign of the ‘Bullet’?
