Neil Magny Form

Neil Magny is currently the #15 ranked welterweight contender with a professional record of 29-12 (8 KOs, 4 Subs).

Magny is one of the longest serving fighters on the UFC roster having competed under the banner since February 2013.

His most successful year came in 2014 when his five victories earned him the record for the most wins in a calendar year, but over the past couple of years he has been nowhere near as consistent.

The 37-year-old American has gone 5-4 in his previous eight fights and has not strung together wins since March 2022.

The last time that happened Magny followed up a unanimous decision win over Geoff Neal with a split decision success by Max Griffin.

‘The Haitian Sensation’ failed to make it three-in-a-row has he was submitted by Shavkat Rakhmonov in the second round, but rebounded to tap out Daniel Rodriguez in the third.

He then sandwiched a split decision win over Phillip Rowe with a first-round submission loss to Gilbert Burns and a unanimous decision loss to Ian Machado Garry as his inconsistency continued.

Magny has already fought twice this year, with mixed results, stopping Mike Malott with strikes in the third round before being knocked out in the first by Michael Morales this past summer.

Carlos Prates Form

Carlos Prates is an unranked welterweight fighter with a professional record of 20-6 (15 KOs, 3 Subs).

Prates compiled a 16-6 record fighting on the minor scene before getting his shot on Dana White’s Contender Series.

He took his big chance to make an impression too, knocking out Mitch Ramirez in the second round to earn a UFC contract in August 2023.

The 31-year-old Brazilian has wasted no time in making an impact, reeling off three consecutive stoppage wins in 2024 to take his streak to 12 fights.

Prates marked his UFC debut with a second-round knockout win over Trevin Giles in February.

He then knocked out Charles Radtke in the first round back in June, before taking out Jingliang Li with strikes in the second round in August.

Verdict

Carlos Prates has been on a tear since arriving in the UFC, while Neil Magny’s best days are behind him.

Prates has to be the pick here, with his devastating power tipped to lead him to another stoppage win.
