Machado Garry made his UFC debut in November 2021 and enjoyed a successful first outing as he knocked out Jordan Williams in the first round.
He backed that up over his next two fights, out-pointing both Darian Weeks and Gabriel Green over three rounds.
The 27-year-old Irishman then got back to stopping opponents in 2023 as he knocked out Song Kenan in the third and Daniel Rodriguez in the first in the space of two months.
Machado Garry ended that year with a decision win over Neil Magny, before propelling himself into title contention with a couple more wins in 2024.
He first beat Geoff Neal via split decision, and then earned the nod from the judges as he beat Michael Venom Page in June.
That earned ‘The Future’ a title eliminator fight last December, but he came up short as he dropped a decision to Shavkat Rakhimonov.

Carlos Prates is the number 13 welterweight contender with a career record of 21-6 (16 KOs, 3 Subs).
Prates spent the first several years of his career fighting for several minor promotions before finally receiving a spot on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2023.
He took his chance with a second-round knockout of Mitch Ramirez, earning himself a contract with the UFC.
The 31-year-old Brazilian enjoyed a successful first outing as he knocked out Trevin Giles in the second round in February of last year.
Prates returned to action in June and followed that up with a first-round stoppage of Charles Radtke, and just over two months later he took out Li Jungliang in the second round.
‘The Nightmare’ then made it four-in-a-row under the UFC banner last November as he took out Neil Magny in the first round.
Verdict
Carlos Prates has been on a tear since arriving in the UFC, but Ian Machado Garry has what it takes to slow his rise.
He can use his footwork, grappling and precise striking to cancel out Prates’ power and take this on the scorecards.
