Texas Rangers Form
Texas came into this series on a disappointing run of form, having gone 5-7 in their previous 12 games.
The Rangers’ underwhelming sequence began as they saw a five-game win streak come to an end with 7-0 and 10-6 defeats at the Chicago Cubs.
They avoided being swept, winning the final meeting 6-2, but they failed to build on that as they were swept in Seattle, losing 5-3, 9-2 and 3-1.
Texas rebounded at home as they recorded a series sweep of their own, beating the Los Angeles Angels 4-0 3-1 and 5-3.
The Rangers failed to keep that run going against LA’s other team though, as they sandwiched a 4-3 win over the Dodgers with 3-0 and 1-0 defeats.
The Athletics Form
The Athletics entered this series on a mixed run of form, having gone 5-5 in their previous 10 games.
This sequence began during the three-game series with the New York Mets, where they lost 8-0 and 7-6 either side of a 3-1 victory.
They fared much better in their next series though, as they travelled to Chicago to sweep the White Sox with 12-3, 3-1 and 8-0 victories.
The Athletics’ run was ended when they moved on to Milwaukee to lose 5-3 at the hands of the Brewers.
They bounced back with a 3-1 victory in the second game of that series, but they failed to back that up as they dropped the finale, 14-1.
