Los Angeles came into this series having returned from the All-Star break with a series sweep of Boston at home.
The Dodgers went into the mid-season pause on a poor run of form, having lost six times in a seven-game spell.
The bad sequence started with a 9-2 loss at home to Milwaukee, which was followed by 10-1, 4-3 and 5-1 defeats as they were swept in Philadelphia.
Los Angeles briefly stopped the rot with a 4-3 win in Detroit, only to go into the All-Star break on the back of 11-9 and 4-3 defeats to the Tigers.
The Dodgers bounced back from those losses when they returned to action however, beating Boston 4-1, 7-6 and 9-6.
