Philadelphia entered this series on the back of a victory, but having lost two of their first three games after the All-Star break.
The Phillies blew hot and cold in the final couple of weeks before the mid-season pause, starting with a series in Atlanta where they failed to build on an 8-6 win, losing 5-1 and 6-0.
They then returned home to host the Los Angeles Dodgers and were able to sweep the visitors in a three-game series, winning 10-1, 4-3 and 5-1.
Philadelphia failed to back that up against Oakland though, sandwiching an 11-5 victory with 6-2 and 18-3 defeats before the break.
The Phillies then resumed their season with 8-7 and 4-1 defeats in Pittsburgh, but they avoided being swept as they took the final encounter 6-0.
Minnesota Twins Form
Minnesota came into this series having lost back-to-back games since the regular season resumed.
The Twins enjoyed a decent run in early July as they beat Houston 9-3 and 3-2 at home before heading to Chicago to beat the White Sox 8-6.
They lost the second meeting 3-1, only to rebound later that day and beat the White Sox in the series finale, 3-2.
Minnesota then travelled to San Francisco for their final series before the All-Star break, and suffered 7-1 and 3-2 defeats either side of a 4-2 victory.
The Twins returned to action with a home series last weekend, but in a disappointing two-game showdown with Milwaukee they were beaten 8-4 and 8-7.
Verdict
Philadelphia need a response and turning to Zach Wheeler is backed to be a smart move.
He has been in strong form this season and in his recent outings he has been lights out, so give us the Phillies in this one.
