The Phillies rebounded from a 5-4 home defeat to Arizona with back-to-back victories over the Diamondbacks, winning 12-1 and 4-1.
They made it three-in-a-row with a 8-1 victory in Detroit, but saw their winning run end with a 4-1 defeat in the second meeting.
Philadelphia rebounded to beat the Tigers 6-2 in the final meeting, but they failed to follow that up as they then split a four-game series in Miami.
The Phillies had to bounce back from a 7-4 loss with a 2-0 victory, and then responded to a 3-2 loss to the Marlins with a 7-6 win.
Chicago Cubs Form
Chicago come into this series looking to kick-start their season following their seventh defeat in 10 games.
The Cubs recorded back-to-back wins over San Francisco earlier this month, but failed to turn those wins into a streak.
They hosted the New York Mets in their next series and sandwiched an 8-1 victory with 11-1 and 5-2 defeats.
Chicago then went out on the road for a four-game series with San Francisco and suffered 5-4, 5-1 and 4-3 defeats before taking the final meeting 5-3.
The Cubs then moved on to Milwaukee where they lost 4-2 and 7-1 either side of a 5-3 victory over the Brewers.
Verdict
Philadelphia are the better team in better form, and offensively they can make up for any issues first-time starter Michael Mercado has.
