Milwaukee Brewers at Chicago Cubs Preview & Picks

Chicago are tipped to follow up last night's win over Milwaukee.

Jameson Taillon has been in good form for the Cubs, while Brewers counterpart Colin Rea has had problems on the road this season.

  • Chicago Cubs are 3-1 when hosting Milwaukee this season
  • Chicago pitcher Jameson Taillon is 7-4 with a 3.10 ERA
  • Milkwaukee starter Colin Rea is allowing a 2.66 batting average on the road

Head To Head

  • Milwaukee Brewers lead the regular season series 6-5
  • Chicago Cubs won 3-1 when the two teams last met on July 22

Milwaukee Brewers Form

Milwaukee entered this series having returned from the All-Star break with back-to-back victories.

The Brewers went into the mid-season pause on the back of a win, but in poor form having lost eight of their previous 11 games.

They were beaten 4-3 in Colorado, before heading to Los Angeles to lose two of their three meetings with the Dodgers.

Milwaukee then sandwiched a 9-0 home win over Pittsburgh with 12-2 and 1-0 defeats, and that was followed by series loss to Washington that saw them fall 5-2 and 6-5 before winning 9-3.

The Brewers backed up that victory over the Nationals when they resumed their season over the weekend, winning 8-4 and 8-7 in Minnesota.

Chicago Cubs Form

Chicago came into this series on the back of a victory, but having lost four of their previous six games.

The Cubs enjoyed a great run during the first half of July, with a 10-2 victory over Philadelphia sparking a sequence that saw them win seven times in an eight-game spell.

They then won two of their three meetings with the Los Angeles Angels, before heading to Baltimore to sweep the Orioles with 9-2, 4-0 and 8-0 wins.

Chicago took their streak to five games with a 5-1 win in St Louis, and then had to respond to 11-3 and 5-4 defeats with an 8-3 victory to split the series.

The Cubs failed to back up that win when they returned from the All-Star break, losing 5-2 and 3-0 to Arizona before taking the final meeting 2-1.

Verdict

Chicago have a solid home record against Milwaukee and Jameson Taillon has been in solid form.

Colin Rea, on the other hand, has seen his productivity drop on the road, so we like the Cubs to follow up last night's win.
