Kansas City Royals Form

Kansas City head to New York as a reward for their Wild Card series sweep of Baltimore on the road.

The Royals earned their place in the playoffs by compiling an 86-76 record during the regular season, securing second place in the American League Central.

They closed out the regular season on a rough run of form though, losing nine of their final 13 games.

Kansas City’s slump included a seven-game losing skid and ended their chances of claiming a division title.

The Royals put that behind them in Baltimore however, as they beat the Orioles 1-0 and 2-1 to set up this series with the New York Yankees.

New York Yankees Form

New York clinched their spot in the postseason with a 94-68 record that earned them another American League East crown.

The Yankees finished three games clear of second-place Baltimore, but the gap would have been much bigger had they not cooled off over the final couple of weeks.

They went into a series with Baltimore having won nine times in an 11-game spell, but they began that series with the Orioles by losing 5-4 and 9-7.

New York avoided being swept as they took the series finale, 10-1, but they failed to build on that against Pittsburgh.

The Yankees dropped the first two meetings with the Pirates, 4-2 and 9-4, only to rebound and take their final regular season outing, 6-4.
