The Astros started August with a 3-2 win over Tampa Bay, only to lose the next two meetings and the series opener at Texas.
They responded in style, embarking on an eight-game win streak on the road that saw them beat the Rangers 4-2 and 6-4, Boston 8-4, 5-4 and 10-2, and Tampa Bay 6-1, 3-2 and 2-1.
Houston’s streak was halted by a 5-4 defeat to the Chicago White Sox when they returned home, but they hit back quickly to take the next two meetings, 6-1 and 2-0.
The Astros made it three-in-a-row with a 5-4 victory over Boston, only to lose the next two meetings with the Red Sox, 6-5 and 4-1.
Baltimore Orioles Form
Baltimore come into this series on the back of a couple of rough series, having lost four of their previous six games.
The Orioles have been on an inconsistent run so far this month, responding to 10-3 and 8-4 defeats in Cleveland with 7-4 and 9-5 victories.
They then sandwiched a 7-3 win in Toronto with 5-2 and 7-6 defeats, before heading to Tampa Bay where they won 4-1 and 7-5 before dropping the series finale 2-1.
Baltimore then responded to a 9-3 loss to Washington with 4-1 and 5-1 victories, and avoided being swept by Boston when they replied to 12-10 and 5-1 losses with a 4-2 win.
The Orioles failed to build on that as they lost the first meeting with the New York Mets, 4-3, and they then failed to build on a 9-5 victory as they lost the series finale 4-3.
Verdict
Spencer Arrighetti gets the nod for Houston here, so this is a good opportunity for Baltimore to bounce back and finally get the better of the Astros this season.
