Cincinnati enter this game on a bad run of form, having suffered their 10th defeat in their last 15 games last night..
The Reds began this poor run with a 4-2 defeat to the Chicago Cubs and a 5-3 loss at the hands of Cleveland.
They rebounded to beat the Guardians 4-2 before winning 6-5 in Milwaukee, but their form soon collapsed as they were beaten 3-1 and 5-4 by the Brewers.
Cincinnati then sandwiched a 2-1 win in Pittsburgh with 4-1 and 1-0 defeats, before returning home and following up a 5-2 win over Boston with 4-3 and 7-4 defeats to the Red Sox.
The Reds won their season opener against Pittsburgh too, 11-5, only to lose the next two meetings, 9-5 and 6-1.
St Louis Cardinals Form
St Louis come into this series with division rivals Cincinnati in good form, having won 10 of their last 14 games.
The Cardinals began this sequence at home to Pittsburgh as they rebounded from a 2-1 defeat with 4-2 and 4-3 victories.
They then travelled to Chicago where they sandwiched a 5-1 defeat to the Cubs with 3-0 and 2-1 victories, before heading to Miami where they failed to build on a 7-6 win as they lost 9-8 and 4-3.
St Louis responded strongly to those losses though, as they returned home to sweep San Francisco with 6-5, 9-4 and 5-3 wins.
The Cardinals then took their win streak to four games by beating Atlanta 4-3 in the opening game of that series, before splitting yesterday's double-header, losing 6-2 before winning 4-1.
Verdict
Miles Mikolas has taken a beating this season and the Cardinals are coming off a double-header, so this could be a great opportunity for the Reds to get in the win column.
