Chicago Cubs at San Diego Padres Preview & Picks

Chicago are tipped to avenge last night’s defeat in San Diego.

The Cubs have made a solid start to the season and starter Shota Imanaga already boasts one win over the Padres this season.

  • Chicago Cubs are 9-4 in their last 13 games
  • Shota Imanaga allowed just 4 hits and 1 run against San Diego on April 4
  • Shota Imanaga is 2-0 in his last 2 starts against San Diego
  • The Under has cashed in each of Shota Imanaga’s last 2 games against San Diego

Head To Head

  • Chicago Cubs lead the all-time series 286-241
  • San Diego Padres won 10-4 when the two teams last met on April 14

Chicago Cubs Form

Chicago entered this series having won back-to-back meetings with defending champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, to improve to 11-7.

The Cubs dropped back-to-back meetings with the Dodgers in Japan to start the season, and then split a four-game series on the road.

They found some consistency in early April though and went on a five-game run that saw them sweep the Athletics, 18-3, 7-4 and 10-2, and beat San Diego 3-1 and 7-1.

Chicago missed out on the sweep as they lost the final meeting with the Padres, 8-7, but they rebounded to beat Texas 7-0 and 10-6, only to lose the series finale 6-2.

The Cubs then lost 3-0 in Los Angeles, but bounced back in emphatic fashion as they downed the Dodgers 16-0 and 4-2.

San Diego Padres Form

San Diego came into this series on a good run of form, having won six of their previous seven games and each of the last four.

The Padres made a fast start to the season as they won their first seven games, sweeping Atlanta and Cleveland at home.

Their perfect run was halted in Chicago as they lost 3-1 and 7-1 to the Cubs, but they avoided being swept as they won the series finale 8-7.

San Diego then moved on and sandwiched a 10-4 defeat to the Athletics with 5-4 and 2-1 victories.

The Padres built on those victories when they returned home, sweeping Colorado with 8-0, 2-0 and 6-0 wins.

Verdict

We have two good teams going head-to-head and you could make a case for either.

We are leaning towards Chicago; they won twice at the Dodgers last week and Shota Imanaga has a great recent record against the Padres.
