Chicago head to Arizona still seeking a first win of the season, having dropped back-to-back games in Japan.
The Cubs opened the campaign overseas, taking part in a two-game Tokyo Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and they dropped both meetings with the defending world champions.
They lost their season-opener 4-1, before suffering a 6-3 defeat in the final game of that series.
Despite those defeats, Chicago are expected to perform better in 2025 that they did in 2024.
The Cubs went 83-79 for the second season running in 2024, but despite the winning record they missed out on the playoffs for the fourth season in a row.
Arizona Diamondbacks Form
Arizona go into the new season looking to bounce back from a 2024 season that saw them miss out on the playoffs.
The Diamondbacks made it all the way to the World Series in 2023, where they lost 4-1 to the Texas Rangers, but they appeared to suffer a hangover in 2024.
They did finish the season with a winning record, but their 89-73 mark was not good enough to make it to the postseason.
Arizona now enter the new campaign having gone 17-14 during Spring Training, with only three teams winning more games.
The Diamondbacks dropped their final two games though, as they were beaten in back-to-back meetings with Cleveland.
Verdict
Zac Gallen gets the nod for Arizona, and that gives us plenty of confidence in the Diamonbacks.
Gallen has looked good against the Cubs, including in a shutout win over them last July, and when the hosts are the betting favorites with him starting off, it tends to end with a win.
