Atlanta entered the new season looking to rebound from another swift postseason exit in 2024.
The Braves have been a playoff fixture in recent years, making the postseason in each of the last six seasons, but since their World Series success in 2021 they have struggled to make an impact.
They won over 100 games in both the 2022 and 2023 regular seasons, only to then fall at the first hurdle in the playoffs as they were beaten in the Division Series.
Atlanta did not even make it that far in 2024, losing 2-0 to San Diego in the Wild Card series after compiling an 89-73 record.
The Braves will aim to make more of a splash in 2025, but they got off to a losing start as they were beaten 7-4 by San Diego on Thursday.

San Diego came into the 2025 regular season looking to make another run at the World Series crown.
The Padres missed out on the playoffs in 2023, but responded strongly in 2024 as they made it to the Division Series.
They compiled a 93-69 regular season record to earn a place in the Wild Card series, where they swept Atlanta in two games.
San Diego bowed out in the next round though, as they blew a 2-1 lead and lost 3-2 to the eventual World Series winners, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Padres came into this series having lost 17 times in Spring Training, but they made a winning start to the regular seaosn as they downed Atlanta, 7-4.
Verdict
San Diego dumped Atlanta out of the playoffs last season and kicked off the new campaign with a win over them.
The Padres continue to get the better of the Braves, and with Cease getting the nod we expect that trend to continue.
