2024 US Open Preview & PIcks - Best Golf Bets For Pinehurst

The US Open returns to Pinehurst Resort for the first time in 10 years, with the world's elite players competing for top honors in North Carolina. Who will rise to the challenge and conquer Pinehurst No.2 come Sunday?
Wyndham Clark is back to defend his title after a one-stroke victory over Rory McIlroy in 2023.
The Pinehurst No. 2 golf course has been host to the U.S. Open on three occasions, in 1999 and 2005, with Martin Kaymer winning the 2014 edition held at this venue.
Past and present major winners that will tee off on Thursday include Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Brian Harman, Wyndham Clark, Bryson DeChambeau, Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Shane Lowry, Hideki Matsuyama, Phil Mickelson, Francesco Molinari, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth, Martin Kaymer, Gary Woodland and Tiger Woods.
These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.
Collin Morikawa
Collin Morikawa has been in outstanding form on the PGA Tour in recent months, placing T3 at the Masters, 9th at the RBC Heritage, T23 at the Zurich Masters of New Orleans, T16 at the Wells Fargo Championship, T4 at the PGA Championship, T4 at the Charles Schwab Challenge and 2nd at the Memorial Tournament last weekend.
Other notable results achieved by Morikawa at the beginning of his PGA Tour season include finishing T5 at the Sentry, T14 at the AT&T Pebble Beah Pro-Am and T19 at the Genesis Invitational in seven tournaments.
The world's eighth-ranked golfer has a solid record at the U.S. Open, placing T35 in 2019, MC in 2020, T4 in 2021, T5 in 2022 and T14 in 2023.
Morikawa has threatened to win lately and will have every chance to lift the trophy at the Pinehurst Resort come Sunday.
Bryson DeChambeau
Bryson DeChambeau had a slow start to the new LIV Golf League season, finishing T25 in Mayakoba before hitting top form, placing T9 in Las Vegas, 4th in Jeddah, T6 in Hong Kong, T7 in Miami and T6 at the Masters.
DeChambeau could not maintain his level of play, finishing T26 in Adelaide and T27 in Singapore in his following two tournaments before returning to form on the golf course, placing 2nd at the PGA Championship and T18 in Houston.
The American golfer has featured nine times at the U.S. Open, with results of MC in 2015, T15 in 2016, MC in 2017, T25 in 2018, 35 in 2019, victory in 2020, T26 in 2021, T56 in 2022 and T20 in 2023.
DeChambeau has been knocking hard to win a tournament and has the form to come out on top on the Pinehurst No.2 golf course this weekend.
Brooks Koepka
Brooks Koepka played well at the beginning of his season on the LIV Golf Tour, placing T5 in Mayakoba, T12 in Las Vegas, T12 in Jeddah before his form dipped, finishing 28th in Hong Kong, T45 in Miami, and T45 at the Masters.
Koepka rediscovered his touch after those disappointing performances, placing T9 in Adelaide, victory in Singapore, T26 at the PGA Championship, and T9 in Houston.
The five-time Major champion has a long history at the U.S. Open, placing T4 in 2014 at Pinehurst No.2, T18 in 2015, T13 in 2016, victory in 2017, victory in 2018, 2nd in 2019, T4 in 2021, 55th in 2022 and T17 in 2023.
Koepka will fancy his chances to secure another Major title, as he has played solid golf this year and has won this event twice previously.
Hideki Matsuyama
Hideki Matsuyama was in decent nick during the opening five events on the PGA Tour, finishing 58th at the Sentry, T30 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T13 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T71 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and T22 at the WM Phoenix Open.
After those results, Matsuyama found another gear, winning at the Genesis Invitational and placing T12 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T6 at the Players Championship and T7 at the Valero Texas Open.
Matsuyama's subsequent two starts were average, finishing T38 at the Masters and T35 at the PGA Championship before returning to form at the Memorial Tournament last weekend, placing T8 overall.
The former Masters champion has made 11 consecutive appearances at the U.S. Open, placing T10 in 2013, T35 in 2014, T18 in 2015, MC in 2016, T2 in 2017, T16 in 2018, T21 in 2019, T17 in 2020, T26 in 2021, 4th in 2022, and T32 in 2023.
Matsuyama has been thereabouts and is the long-shot value bet in North Carolina this weekend.
Verdict
DeChambeau has done nothing wrong this season and has the game to emerge as the winner at Pinehurst Resort come Sunday.
Koepka is no stranger to winning the US Open and should enter calculations.
Matsuyama has been in solid form and offers excellent value in North Carolina this weekend.
