Four of the world's premier golfers from the PGA Tour and LIV Golf League team up in pairs to compete for top honours at the Shadow Creek Golf Club this Tuesday. Which team will claim bragging rights and win the Showdown in Las Vegas?
The Shadow Creek Golf Club hosted the 2018 The Match between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, the 2020 CJ Cup on the PGA Tour, and from 2021 the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play on the LPGA Tour.
In 2024, it is The Showdown between the PGA Tour's Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy and LIV Golf's Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau that is staged at the venue.
Scottie Scheffler & Rory McIlroy
Scottie Scheffler was in tremendous form during the 2024 PGA Tour season, winning nine titles, including the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Players Championship, the Masters, the RBC Heritage, the Memorial Tournament, the Travelers Championship, Paris Olympics, the Tour Championship and Hero World Challenge.
Scheffler struggled at the 2023 Ryder Cup for Team America, compiling a 0-2-2 record to take his overall tally to 2-2-3.
However, Scheffler was in better shape at the 2024 Presidents Cup, producing an overall 3-2-0 performance, taking his overall record to 3-5-1.
Rory McIlroy was in excellent form on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour this season, placing T2 at the Dubai Invitational, victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, 3rd at the Valero Texas Open, victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, victory at the Wells Fargo Championship, T4 at the RBC Canadian Open and 2nd at the U.S. Open.
He was then T4 at the Genesis Scottish Open, T5 at the Paris Olympics, T4 at the BMW Championship, 2nd at the Amgen Irish Open, T2 at the BMW PGA Championship, T3 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and won the DP World Tour Championship.
McIlroy was in fine form at the previous edition of the Ryder Cup, finishing as the top points scorer for Team Europe with a 4-1-0 performance, taking his record to 16-13-4.
Brooks Koepka & Bryson DeChambeau
Brooks Koepka was in top form on the LIV Golf Tour this season, with his best results being a T5 in Mayakoba, a T9 in Adelaide, a victory in Singapore, a T9 in Houston, a victory in Greenbrier and a T6 in Chicago. He also recorded a T10 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on the DP World Tour.
Koepka produced a steady 1-1-1 performance at the 2023 Ryder Cup, taking his record to 7-6-1 overall.
Bryson DeChambeau was in great touch throughout 2024 on the LIV Golf Tour and in the Majors, placing T9 in Las Vegas, 4th in Jeddah, T6 in Hong Kong, T7 in Miami, T6 at the Masters, 2nd at the PGA Championship, victory at the U.S. Open, T3 in Nashville, 9th in Andalucia and T6 in Chicago.
Dechambeau was left out of the last edition of the Ryder Cup, with his current record standing at 2-3-1 in the competition.
The Format
The match is split into three stages, with the teams playing Fourballs through holes 1 to 6, Foursomes through holes 7 to 12, and Singles through holes 13 to 18.
Verdict
Scheffler and McIIroy have captured a combined total of 13 titles this season and are tipped to defeat the pairing of Koepka and DeChambeau at the Showdown in Las Vegas.
