The Detroit Golf Club hosts the Rocket Mortgage Classic for the sixth time this weekend but who will add their name to the list of winners?

Rickie Fowler returns to Detroit to defend his title after a playoff victory over Adam Hadwin and Collin Morikawa in 2023, and he will be up against a bunch of past Major winners in Stewart Cink, Jason Dufner, Zach Johnson, Francesco Molinari, Webb Simpson, Jimmy Walker and Gary Woodland.

These are our four picks that could win the title this weekend.

Cameron Young

Cameron Young had an impressive beginning to his season on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, placing T33 at the Sentry, 3rd at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, 70th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T8 at the WM Phoenix Open and T16 at the Genesis Invitational.

He was then T4 at the Cognizant Classic, T36 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T54 at the Players Championship, 2nd at the Valspar Championship and T9 at the Masters.

After those results, Young's performances became wayward, finishing T62 at the RBC Heritage, T34 at the Wells Fargo Championship, T63 at the PGA Championship, MC at the RBC Canadian Open, T50 at the Memorial Tournament and T67 at the U.S. Open, before returning to form last weekend, placing T9 at the Travelers Championship.

The 27-year-old American placed an excellent T2 overall on debut at the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Young showed signs he is ready to crack his maiden PGA Tour victory last time out and will fancy his chances to emerge as the winner in Detroit if he can replicate his recent display.

Akshay Bhatia

Akshay Bhatia got off to a solid start to his season on the PGA Tour, placing T14 at the Sentry, T13 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, MC at the American Express, and T13 at the Farmers Insurance Open before missing the cut at the WM Phoenix Open, the Cognizant Classic and at the Players Championship.

After disappointing those results, Bhatia bounced back to his best, placing T17 at the Valspar Championship, T11 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, victory at the Valero Texas Open, T35 at the Masters and T18 at the RBC Heritage.

Bhatia could not maintain that level of play in his subsequent four events, finishing 42nd at the Wells Fargo Championship, MC at the PGA Championship, MC at the Charles Schwab Challenge, T60 at the RBC Canadian Open before regaining his touch, placing T22 at the Memorial Tournament, T16 at the U.S. Open and T5 at the Travelers Championship last weekend.

The 22-year-old American missed the cut on debut at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Bhatia has been inching his way up the leaderboards lately and has the form to win in Michigan this weekend.

Taylor Pendrith

Taylor Pendrith began well on the new PGA Tour season, placing T10 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, MC at the American Express and T9 at the Farmers Insurance Open.

However, Pendrith's form dropped off sharply in his subsequent six tournaments, with results of MC at the Mexico Open, MC at the Cognizant Classic, MC at the Players Championship, MC at the Valspar Championship, T36 at the Texas Children's Houston Open and MC at the Valero Texas Open.

Pendrith turned his fortunes around after his dismal run of results, placing T11 at the Corales Puntacana Championship, T11 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, victory at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson, T10 at the Wells Fargo Championship, MC at the PGA Championship, T21 at the RBC Canadian Open, T33 at the Memorial Tournament, T16 at the U.S. Open and T23 at the recent Travelers Championship.

The Canadian golfer has featured twice at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, placing T2 in 2022 and T14 in 2023.

Pendrith plays well at this PGA Tour event and could surprise the others by winning the title in Detroit.

Davis Thompson

Davis Thompson showed promise at the beginning of the PGA Tour season, placing T57 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T21 at the American Express, MC at the Farmers Insurance Open, T15 at the WM Phoenix Open and T24 at the Mexico Open.

His performances became wayward, finishing T47 at the Cognizant Classic, MC at the Players Championship and MC at the Valspar Championship.

However, Thompson has been in better shape on the golf course since the end of March, placing T21 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, T45 at the Valero Texas Open, T18 at the Corales Puntacana Championship and T23 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

After a MC at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson, he was then T2 at the Myrtle Beach Classic, T17 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, MC at the RBC Canadian Open, T27 at the Memorial Tournament and T9 at the U.S. Open.

The 25-year-old American has made two appearances at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, finishing T58 in 2021 and T24 in 2023.

Thompson has been in solid form lately and will fancy his chances to cause an upset victory at the Detroit Golf Club come Sunday.

Verdict

Young returned to form in his previous start and will have a chance of victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic this weekend.

Bhatia has the form to go all the way and lift the trophy at the Detroit Golf Club this weekend.

Pendrith has been in decent form since winning earlier this year and should enter calculations in Detroit.

Thompson has been achieving solid results this season and can secure his maiden PGA Tour title in Michigan come Sunday.
