The LIV Golf Series heads to Nashville for the first time this week, but who will make history by winning the historic tournament?

The event is being held at The Grove, which has previously hosted USGA and NCAA tournaments, including a Korn Ferry Tour final event in 2023.

Current top-ten in the individual points standings after eight rounds:

  • 1. Joaquin Niemann 134.40 pts
  • 2. Jon Rahm 98.17 pts
  • 3. Dean Burmester 93.74 pts
  • 4. Brooks Koepka 84.23 pts
  • 5. Louis Oosthuizen 83.10 pts
  • 6. Sergio Garcia 81.82 pts
  • 7. Dustin Johnson 73.23 pts
  • 8. Talor Gooch 72.13 pts
  • 9. Abraham Ancer 71.97 pts.
  • 10. Cameron Smith 70.66 pts

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm had been in ultra-consistent form on the LIV Golf Tour this season, placing T3 in Mayakoba, T8 in Las Vegas, 5th in Jeddah, T8 in Hong Kong, T4 in Miami, T45 at the Masters, T3 in Adelaide and T10 in Singapore.

However, Rahm has not featured much on a golf course lately after missing the cut at the PGA Championship and withdrawing from the LIV Golf event in Houston and at the U.S. Open last weekend.

Rahm has had a break from playing, which could be the catalyst required for the Spaniard to secure his maiden LIV Golf League victory at the inaugural event in Nashville.

Talor Gooch

Talor Gooch was in great touch during the opening tournaments of the new LIV Golf Tour season, placing  T15 in Mayakoba, T2 in Las Vegas, T6 in Jeddah, T21 in Hong Kong and T9 in Miami.

Gooch's form has dipped slightly after those results, finishing T26 in Adelaide, 4th in Singapore, T60 at the PGA Championship and T15 in Houston.

Gooch has played solid golf this season and will look to secure the title in Tennessee.

Sergio Garcia

Sergio Garcia had an excellent start to his season in the LIV Golf League, placing 2nd in Mayakoba before producing inconsistent performances, finishing T26 in Las Vegas, T15 in Jeddah and T38 in Hong Kong.

Garcia has been in better shape lately, placing T21 at the International Series in Macau (Asian Tour), 2nd in Miami, MC at the Masters, T40 in Adelaide, T14 in Singapore, 5th in Houston and T12 at the recent U.S. Open.

Garcia has come good in recent starts and will fancy his chances to lift the trophy at The Grove come Sunday.

Adrian Meronk

Adrian Meronk has enjoyed solid success since joining the LIV Golf Tour, placing 47th in Mayakoba, T9 in Las Vegas, T6 in Jeddah, T15 in Hong Kong, 17th in Miami, T26 in Adelaide, T10 in Singapore and 2nd in Houston.

Before that, Meronk contested four events on the DP World Tour, finishing T40 at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship, T8 at the ISPS Handa Australian Open, T10 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and 2nd at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

The four-time winner on the DP World Tour has misfired at the Majors this season, missing the cut at the Masters, PGA Championship and the U.S. Open last weekend.

Meronk can convert his recent performances in the LIV Golf League into a winning one in Tennessee this weekend.

Format

An invitational field of 54 golfers will feature at the tournament, with a total purse of $25 million up for grabs. $4 million will go to the winner, while the player coming in last will pocket $50,000.

The players will contest 54 holes instead of 72 for all the LIV Golf Invitational Series events.

A shotgun start will occur, where the players will tee off simultaneously from different holes.

A 13-four-man team (four players each and two wild-card players) format will run concurrent, with the top three teams earning prize money.

Verdict

Rahm has done nothing wrong in the LIV Golf League this season and is overdue a win.

Gooch has been thereabouts and can emerge as the winner at The Grove this weekend.

Garcia is showing signs he is ready to secure another trophy and will be challenging for the title in Nashville come Sunday.

Meronk has been making his way up leaderboards on the LIV Golf Tour and can cause an upset victory in Tennessee.
