A competitive lineup has converged in Illinois for the latest edition of the John Deere Classic, but who will lift the trophy at TPC Deere Run?

Sepp Straka returns to defend his title after a two-stroke win over Alex Smalley and Brendon Todd in 2023.

Past major winners in the field include Stewart Cink, Jason Day, Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson, and Jordan Spieth.

These are our selections that could win the title this weekend.

Sungjae Im

Sungjae Im struggled with his game during the opening 11 tournaments of his PGA Tour season, with his best results being T5 at the Senry, T25 at the American Express and T18 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Im has followed that by placing T12 at the RBC Heritage, victory at the Woori Financial Group Championship (Korean Tour), T4 at the Wells Fargo Championship, MC at the PGA Championship, T9 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, T8 at the Memorial Tournament, MC at the U.S. Open and T3 at the Travelers Championship.

The 26-year-old Korean golfer has featured twice at the John Deere Classic, finishing T26 in 2019 and T47 in 2021.

Im will fancy his chances to return to winning ways in Illinois after achieving two top-five and two top-ten results in six starts.

Sepp Straka

Sepp Straka struggled to find any rhythm to his game at the start of the season on the PGA Tour as he missed the cut four times, with his best result being T12 at the Sentry and T26 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in eight starts.

Straka bounced back to his best after those performances, placing T16 at the Players Championship, MC at the Valspar Championship, T16 at the Masters, T5 at the RBC Heritage, T11 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and T8 at the Wells Fargo Championship.

He had an MC at the PGA Championship before T5 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, T5 at the Memorial Tournament before finishing T56 at the U.S. Open and T23 at the Travelers Championship.

The Austrian has made three appearances at the John Deere Classic, with results of T26 in 2019, MC in 2021, and victory in 2023.

Straka has the form to win back-to-back trophies at TPC John Deere this weekend.

Aaron Rai

Aaron Rai did not have the best beginning to his new season on the PGA Tour, finishing T57 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, MC at the American Express, T33 at the Farmers Insurance Open and MC at the WM Phoenix Open.

He then found some form, placing T19 at the Mexico Open, T23 at the Puerto Rico Open, T35 at the Players Championship, MC at the Valspar Championship and T7 at the Texas Children's Houston Open.

After those performances, Rai produced some inconsistent results, finishing T58 at the Valero Texas Open, MC at the Corales Puntacana Championship, T23 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, T4 at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson, T39 at the PGA Championship and T32 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

However, Rai has been in great touch lately, placing T14 at the RBC Canadian Open, T14 at the U.S. Open and T2 at the recent Rocket Mortgage Classic.

The 29-year-old Englishman will debut at the 2024 John Deere Classic. Rai has been playing well lately and could surprise the other with the victory in Illinois.

Verdict

Sungjae Im has been back to his consistent best and can get over the finish line in Illinois.

Straka will fancy his chances to secure his second consecutive trophy at TPC Deere Run this weekend.

Rai has posted solid results lately and should enter calculations.
