Some of the best golfers on the planet are headed to Royal Montreal Golf Club for the Presidents Cup, but will Team USA win this team tournament for the 10th straight time?

In 2022, Team USA defeated the Internationals 17.5-12.5 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, to retain the Presidents Cup for the ninth consecutive time.

The Royal Montreal Golf Club hosted the Presidents Cup in 2007, where the United States defeated the Internationals 19.5-14.5.

Past and present Major winners in the lineup include Scottie Sheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Keegan Bradley, Brian Harman, Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott and Jason Day.

These are our best bets for the 2024 Presidents Cup.

The Teams

USA:

Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Sahith Theegala, Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Brian Harman, Russell Henley, and Max Homa.

Captain: Jim Furyk

Internationals:

Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Jason Day, Byeong Hun An, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, Si Woo Kim, Min Woo Lee, and Pendrith Taylor.

Captain: Mike Weir

The Team To Win

The Presidents Cup has been contested in international countries on six occasions, with Team USA winning the title four times compared to once for the Internationals, including one tied result.

Overall, Team USA have secured 12 victories to one against the Internationals, including one tie in 14 editions of the Presidents Cup, including nine consecutive titles.

Team USA have a superior record over the Internationals in the competition and regularly wins outside of the United States, positioning them favourably to retain the Presidents Cup this weekend.

Tournament Winning Margin

Scores between Team USA and the Internationals have generally been close contests or easy victories in the last five editions of the Presidents Cup, with Team USA winning 18.5-15.5 in 2013, 15.5-14.5 in 2015, 19-11 in 2017, 16-14 in 2019 and 17.5-12.5 in 2022.

Both teams feature skilled players who can produce excellent golf. However, Team USA have assembled a formidable lineup, with two of their players dominating the Majors and winning multiple tournaments in 2024, giving them the advantage to lift the Presidents Cup for the tenth consecutive time with a 16.5-13.5 winning victory.

Top Points Scorer for Team USA

Xander Schauffele has had an outstanding season, securing two Majors and recording four top-three finishes during 2024.

Schauffele registered victories at the PGA Championship and the Open Championship, including placing T3 at the American Express, T2 at the Players Championship, 2nd at the Wells Fargo Championship, and T2 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Other noteworthy results achieved by Schauffele this year include finishing T10 at the Sentry, T9 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T4 at the Genesis Invitational, T5 at the Valspar Championship, 8th at the Masters, T8 at the Memorial Tournament, T7 at the U.S. Open, T9 at the Paris Olympics, T5 at the BMW Championship and T4 at the Tour Championship.

The world's second-ranked golfer was part of the 2019 and 2022 Presidents Cup winning teams and has compiled a record of 6-3-0.

Xander Schauffele has been ultra-consistent throughout his season on the PGA Tour and will relish playing against the Internationals in Canada.

Top Points Scorer for the Internationals

Hideki Matsuyama has achieved two tournament victories on the PGA Tour this season and recorded multiple top-ten results.

Matsuyama won the Genesis Invitational and the FedEx St. Jude Championship, including placing T6 at the Players Championship, T7 at the Valero Texas Open, T8 at the Memorial Tournament, 6th at the U.S. Open and 3rd at the Paris Olympics.

The nine-time PGA Tour winner has compiled a record of 7-10-5 at the Presidents Cup.

Hideki Matsuyama has come good after going winless last season on the PGA Tour and will back himself to lead from the front against Team USA in Montreal.

Format

The Presidents Cup takes place over four days, comprising 30 matches and 20 points at stake.

Each victory in a match is worth one point, and a tie is worth half a point.

Day 1: 5 Foursomes matches.
Day 2: 5 Four-ball matches.
Day 3: 4 Four-ball matches in the morning and 4 Foursome matches in the afternoon.
Day 4: 12 Singles matches.

Verdict

Team USA have performed well on their home soil in the past, giving them the edge they need to beat Team Europe and regain the Solheim Cup for the first time since 2017.

Another close contest is predicted between Team USA and Team Europe, with the home team securing the title with a 15.5-12.5 victory at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

Lilia Vu came close to winning two Major titles in 2024 and can emerge as the leading scorer for Team USA in Gainesville this weekend.

Charley Hull has produced consistent results this season and will draw on her experience playing in this competition to accumulate the most points for Team Europe in Virginia.
