Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Ottawa Redblacks Preview & Picks

Winnipeg are tipped to cover as they bounce back from a season-opening loss.

The Blue Bombers have pretty much dominated Ottawa in recent seasons, and they should have shaken off some of the rust in that Week 1 defeat.

  • Winnipeg Blue Bombers are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings
  • Winnipeg Blue Bombers are 7-3-0 ATS in the last 10 meetings
  • Ottawa Redblacks are 1-9 in their last 10 games dating back to 2023
  • The Under has cashed in 4 of the last 5 meetings

Head To Head

  • Winnipeg Blue Bombers lead the series 9-6 since 2014
  • Ottawa Redblacks won 31-28 in overtime when the two teams last met in July 2023

Winnipeg Blue Bombers Form

Winnipeg go into their first road game of the season looking to rebound from a season-opening loss.

The Blue Bombers kicked things off at home to Montreal last week, and were beaten 27-12 by the Alouettes.

That matchup was a rematch from the 2023 Grey Cup, which was also surprisingly won by Montreal.

Winnipeg compiled a 14-4 record to win the West Division, and then downed the BC Lions 24-13 in the playoffs to seal their fourth consecutive Grey Cup appearance.

However, the Blue Bombers did not live up to their ‘favorites’ tag as they were beaten 28-24 by Montreal thanks to a last-gasp touchdown.

Ottawa Redblacks Form

Ottawa finally get their 2024 season underway on Thursday night, and they will be desperate to improve on their four-win season in 2023.

The Redblacks dropped three of their first four years ago, but rallied in July with back-to-back victories.

They stunned Winnipeg with a 31-28 overtime win at home, and then backed that up with a 43-41 overtime success when they visited Calgary.

Ottawa lost the next seven games though, before finally stopping the rot with a 36-28 victory over Saskatchewan.

That proved to be the Redblacks’ final win of the season, as they wrapped up the campaign with four more losses to finish 4-14.

Verdict

Winnipeg remain a contender to win the Grey Cup despite their Week 1 defeat.

Ottawa, on the other hand, are as far away from being a contender as you can get, so we expect to see a response from the Blue Bombers here.
