Ryan Garcia is a former interim world lightweight champion with a professional record of 24-1 (20 KOs) with 1 No Contest.
Garcia entered the professional ranks in June 2016 and won a couple of minor titles as he climbed the lightweight ladder.
He was rewarded with a fight for the interim WBC lightweight belt in January 2021, and he took his chance by knocking out former Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell in the seventh round.
A fight for the full title did not follow though, and in his next outing he went the distance with Emmanuel Tagoe, winning via unanimous decision.
Garcia then knocked out Javier Fortuna in the sixth round to set up a high-profile showdown with Gervonta Davis.
That resulted in the first and only loss of his career so far, as he was stopped by ‘Tank’ in the seventh round.
The 26-year-old Californian rebounded in his next outing, stopping Oscar Duarte in the eighth round, and he looked to have backed that up when the judges awarded him a decision win over Devin Haney in 2024.
However, Garcia failed a drug test and his majority decision victory was later overturned to a No Contest.
Rolando Romero Form
Rolando Romero is a former world super-welterweight and interim world lightweight champion with a career record of 16-2 (13 KOs).
Romero debuted back in 2016 and won his first 11 fights to earn an interim WBA world title fight in August 2020.
The American fighter won the lightweight belt with a unanimous decision victory over Jackson Martinez, but a full title fight did not follow.
The following January he knocked out Avery Sparrow in the seventh round, setting up another interim world title fight.
The belt was removed from the contest after his opponent failed to make weight, but Romero did at least leave the victor, knocking out Anthony Yigit in the seventh.
His perfect record finally received its first blemish in May 2022 when he was knocked out in the sixth round, but he bounced back quickly with a ninth-round stoppage of Ismael Barroso.
Romero failed to build on that as he was knocked out in the eighth round by Isaac Cruz in March 2024, but he did bounce back before the end of the year, beating Manuel James on points.
Verdict
Ryan Garcia will be looking to make up for lost time, and we expect him to make a statement.
