  • Jorge Masvidal beat Nate Diaz by TKO in the UFC in 2019

Head To Head

  • Jorge Masvidal won by third-round TKO when the two men last met in November 2019 (UFC)

Nate Diaz Form

Nate Diaz is a former UFC fighter with a 23-13 record in mixed martial arts and an 0-1 record as a professional boxer.

Diaz competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship between 2007 and 2022, and fought a who’s who of fighters during that time.

His most famous victory came in March 2016 when he stepped in to face Conor McGregor at short notice and tapped out the Irish star in the second round.

The two mean fought again several months later, and this time Diaz came out on the losing end via majority decision.

Diaz ended a three-year absence from the UFC when he beat Anthony Pettis on points in the summer of 2019, but he went on to lose his next two fights.

He suffered a TKO defeat at the hands of Jorge Masvidal, after the doctor waved it off, and then dropped a unanimous decision to current welterweight champion Leon Edwards.

The 39-year-old did win his most recent UFC outing, submitting Tony Ferguson in the fourth round in September 2022, but he failed to back that up in his boxing debut.

Diaz went 10 rounds with Jake Paul as he suffered a unanimous decision defeat in April 2023.

Jorge Masvidal Form

Jorge Masvidal is a former UFC fighter who has a 35-17 professional MMA record and a 1-0 record as a boxer.

Masvidal, who first made his name as a streetfighter in Miami, enjoyed a stunning career renaissance in 2019.

Having lost back-to-back fights, he halted the rise of Darren Till by knocking out the English fighter in London in March of that year.

Then, in July, he produced a sensational five-second knockout of Ben Askren, before backing that up with a third-round TKO victory over Nate Diaz in November.

That victory over Diaz earned Masvidal the title of ‘Baddest Motherf****r in The UFC’, and a shot at the welterweight title.

He came up short in his bid to win the 170lb crown, dropping a unanimous decision to Kamaru Usman, and the following year he was knocked out by Usman in the second round of their rematch.

Masvidal’s losing skid then reached four fights with points losses to Colby Covington and Gilbert Burns bringing the curtain down on his MMA career.

‘Gamebred’ has not fought since, but he does have some professional boxing experience, having beat Joseph Benjamin by majority decision in June 2005.

Verdict

Nate Diaz’s performance against Jake Paul did little to instil confidence about his chances here.

Jorge Masvidal is the faster, more accurate puncher with a lot more power, so we expect ‘Gamebred’ to repeat his UFC win over Diaz.
