Luis Alberto Lopez is the IBF featherweight champion with a professional record of 27-2 (15 KOs).
Lopez bounced back from a May 2019 defeat with a 10-fight win streak that propelled him to a world title.
He started the run with back-to-back first-round knockouts of Israel Rojas and Marco Antonio Monteros, before stopping Cristian Baez in the fifth.
The 29-year-old Mexican then beat Andy Vences by split decision, before recording another first-round stoppage at the expense of Mauro Loreto.
Lopez’s next outing saw him beat Gabriel Flores Jr by unanimous decision, and he then returned to his knockout ways for his next three fights.
‘El Venado’ knocked out Isaac Lowe in the seventh round of his UK debut, stopped Raul Chirino in the fourth round, and then took out Yeison Vargas in two rounds.
That secured Lopez a shot at a world title, and he took his chance as he travelled to Leeds, England to beat home favourite Josh Warrington via majority decision.
Michael Conlan Form
Michael Conlan is a former interim world featherweight champion with an 18-1 (9 KOs) professional record.
Despite being from Northern Ireland, Conlan made his name fighting in the United States early in his career.
He won and defended minor titles between December 2018 and 2019 as he tried to force his way into title contention.
The 31-year-old finally landed a shot at a world title in August 2016, albeit an interim one.
Conlan took on TJ Doheny that night and earned a unanimous decision victory to become the interim WBA featherweight champion.
He failed to turn that into a full title in his next outing though, as he was knocked out in the 12th round by Leigh Wood while leading on the judges’ scorecards.
Conlan rebounded quickly though and got back to winning ways with a majority decision victory over Miguel Marriaga last August.
He then ended 2022 by stopping Karim Guerfi in the first round to set up this world title fight.
Verdict
Conlan may have lost more recently, but he was well on his way to victory when he was stopped.
