  • Katie Taylor’s last 11 fights have gone the distance

Head To Head

  • Katie Taylor beat Amanda Serrano by split decision in April 2022

Katie Taylor Form

Katie Taylor is the defending undisputed light-welterweight champion of the world with a professional record of 23-1 (6 KOs).

This is the second time that Taylor has been the undisputed champion of a division, having previously held all of the belts at lightweight.

The 38-year-old Irish fighter won that crown in June 2019 when she edged Delfine Persoon by split decision in New York.

She then became a light-welterweight champion when she beat Christina Linardatou by unanimous decision later that year, before returning back to the lightweight scene.

Taylor made her first successful defence of the undisputed crown in August 2020 when she won her rematch with Persoon by unanimous decision, and that proved to be the start of a string of unanimous points wins as she retained her crown.

She beat Miriam Gutierrez, Natasha Jonas, Jennifer Han and Firuza Sharipova, setting up a huge showdown with Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden.

The two women served up an all-time classic which was ultimately won by ‘The Bray Bomber’ via split decision.

Taylor then beat Karen Carabajal by unanimous decision, before coming up short in her bid to become a two-weight undisputed champion, losing to light-welterweight champion Chantelle Cameron by majority decision.

The Irish legend would not be denied though, and when she fought Cameron again she won the fight by majority decision to become a two-weight undisputed world champion.

Amanda Serrano Form

Amanda Serrano is the reigning undisputed featherweight world champion with a career record of 47-2 (31 KOs) with 1 draw.

Serrano suffered a points loss early in her career, but responded with a 28-fight win streak that saw her claim world titles in multiple weight classes.

Her first signature win came in March 2021 when she beat Daniela Romina Bermudez via ninth-round knockout to win the WBC, WBO and IBO featherweight titles.

She made a successful defence of that crown that the summer, beating Yamileth Mercado via unanimous decision, and she ended the year with a points win over Miriam Gutierrez in a non-title fight.

That set Serrano up for a huge showdown with Katie Taylor in April 2022, and despite playing her part in a fight for the ages, she came out on the losing end via split decision.

Her failure to win the undisputed lightweight crown did not derail her though, as she rebounded with a points win over Sarah Mahfoud to move a step closer to becoming undisputed featherweight champion of the world.

She completed that mission in February 2023 as she beat Erika Cruz via unanimous decision to add the WBA belt to her collection.

‘The Real Deal’ then fought twice more last year, successfully defending her crown with points wins over Heather Hardy and Danila Ramos.

That set up a rematch with Taylor for July, but that fight was shelved after the main event for the card, Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson, was postponed.

Serrano instead fought Stevie Morgan and made quick work of her opponent, knocking her out in the second round.

Verdict

These two women are all-time great boxers and we expect another memorable encounter.

Katie Taylor’s footwork and jab served her well in the first fight, and should lead her to another points win in the rematch.
