Jack Catterall vs Regis Prograis Preview & Picks
Jack Catterall is tipped to extend his win streak with a decision victory.
Regis Prograis’ success have been against aggressive fighters, but Catterall is a cerebral fighter.
He lacks fight-finishing power though, so we expect him to outpoint Prograis over 12 rounds.
- Jack Catterall has a 29-1 professional record
- 8 of Jack Catterall’s last 9 fights went the distance
- 7 of Jack Catterall’s last 8 wins have been on points
- Both of Regis Prograis’ career defeats have been via decision
Jack Catterall Form
Jack Catterall is the number four-ranked light-welterweight by Ring Magazine, and enters this fight with a professional record of 29-1 (13 KOs).
Catterall debuted in September 2012 and reeled off 18 consecutive wins before beating Tyrone Nurse on points to claim the British light-welterweight title in October 2017.
He never defended the title, instead going on to successfully defend the WBO inter-continental title over the next couple of years.
That title was relinquished after the points win over Ohara Davies in October 2018, and in his next outing he took just three rounds to stop Oscar Amador.
From there Catterall beat Timo Schwarzkopf and Abderrazak Houya on points to earn a shot at the undisputed world light-welterweight crown.
He out-boxed Josh Taylor over 12 rounds in that one, but found himself on the receiving end of a hugely-questionable split decision defeat.
Catterall bounced back with decision wins over Darragh Foley and Jorge Linares, before avenging that loss to Taylor with a unanimous points victory back in May.
Regis Prograis Form
Regis Prograis is a former world light-welterweight champion with a career record of 29-2 (24 KOs).
Prograis made his professional debut in April 2012 and reeled off 20 victories to earn himself a world title fight in March 2018.
The 35-year-old American knocked out Julius Indongo to win the interim WBC title, and then beat Juan Jose Velasco by eighth-round knockout before entering the World Boxing Super Series.
He beat Terry Flanagan by unanimous decision in the quarter-finals, and then booked his place in the final with a sixth-round knockout of Kiryl Relikh.
Prograis’ quest to become undisputed champion ended in failure though, as he dropped a majority decision defeat to Josh Taylor in October 2019.
He rebounded with a string of knockout wins, starting with a third-round stoppage of Juan Heraldez and sixth-round stoppages of Ivan Redkach and Tyrone McKenna.
That earned him a fight for the vacant WBC light-welterweight title and he took his big chance, finishing Jose Zepeda in the 11th round.
Prograis managed one successful defence, beating Danielito Zorrilla by split decision, before losing the title to Devin Haney by unanimous decision last December.
Verdict
Jack Catterall has one defeat on his record and that should arguably not be there.
He is a smart, calculated fighter who is unlikely to fall into Regis Prograis’ trap, but that lack of fight-ending power means he will need the judges’ assistance.
