Israil Madrimov vs Terence Crawford Preview & Picks
Terence Crawford is tipped to win the WBA light-middleweight title.
Israil Madrimov packs a punch, making him dangerous, but he also lacks experience at this level.
Crawford has solved every puzzle he has ever faced, and we expect him to do the same here.
- Terence Crawford has a 40-0 professional record
- 31 of Terence Crawford’s 40 career wins have been by KO/TKO
- Terence Crawford has stopped his last 11 opponents
- Terence Crawford has not gone the distance in a fight since July 2016
Israil Madrimov Form
Israil Madrimov is the defending WBA light-middleweight champion with a career record of 10-0 (7 KOs) with 1 draw.
Madrimov made his professional debut in November 2018 and immediately reeled off five consecutive stoppage wins.
That streak was ended in August 2020, but he still came out victorious as he beat Eric Walker via unanimous decision.
He then beat Emmany Kalombo on points the following April, before wrapping up 2021 with a ninth round stoppage of Michel Soro.
Madrimov suffered the first blemish on his record in his only outing of 2022, as he went to a technical draw in the rematch with Soro, but he has rebounded with back-to-back wins.
The 29-year-old beat Raphael Igbokwe by unanimous decision in April 2023 to earn himself a shot at a world title.
‘The Dream’ then claimed that championship with a fifth-round knockout of Magomed Kurbanov in March of this year.
Terence Crawford Form
Terence Crawford has held world titles in three difference weight classes and boasts a perfect professional record of 40-0 (31 KOs).
Crawford became a world champion for the first time in March 2014 when he beat Ricky Burns on points to become the WBO lightweight champion.
He went on to defend that title twice and add the Ring Magazine belt before moving up to the light-welterweight division.
In his first fight at that weight, in April 2015, ‘Bud’ claimed the vacant WBO title with a sixth-round knockout of Thomas Dulhorme.
Crawford beat Viktor Postol on points in July 2016 to add the WBC and Ring Magazine titles, and then became undisputed champion at that weight by knocking out Julius Idongo in the third round in 2017.
The 36-year-old American moved up to light-welterweight after that victory and again wasted no time in making an impact in a bigger weight class.
This time he knocked out Jeff Horn in the ninth round to become the WBO welterweight champion of the world in June 2018.
From there he knocked out Jose Benavidez Jr in the 12th, Amir Khan in the sixth, Egidijus Kavaliauskas in the ninth and Kell Brook in the fourth as he stacked up successful defences.
Crawford’s streak continued as he stopped Shawn Porter in the 10th and David Avanesyan in the sixth, and that set up another huge unification fight in the summer of 2023.
‘Bud’ was victorious in that fight too, knocking out Errol Spence Jr in the ninth round to become the undisputed welterweight world champion.
Verdict
Despite his lack of experience, Israil Madrimov’s punching power makes him a threat in this one.
However, Terence Crawford has plenty of power himself, coupled with elite boxing skills, so we expect victory number 41 for ‘Bud’.
